Website builders have helped to bring plenty of digital dreams to life, for a fraction of what they might have cost in the past. These days, you don't need to pay a web designer or developer (or learn how to code yourself) to build a professional website. For a fixed monthly price, just about anyone can easily and affordably make their own high-quality website.

However, "affordable" means different things to different people: Whether it's available or already in use, you'll need to purchase a domain to ensure that your web presence is as professional as possible. In addition to a standard monthly fee, you'll also need to pay rent for your domain or extra features, from an online store to the ability to add multiple languages.

We reviewed a wide selection of website builders and ranked them below in terms of their affordability to help you in making your selection.

The Cheapest Website Builders

For this comparison, we only considered those subscriptions that include a domain. Blogging features and SSL encryption should also be included. Free plans weren't taken into account, since these lack a number of basic features (should you be able to live with these disadvantages, be sure to check out our list of the best free website builders).

And now, here's our Top 7 most affordable website builders:

1.

Webador: From Around $4/Month

Webador Website Builder
Webador Website Builder

Webador prioritizes ease-of-use over advanced functionality and personalization. Hence, it's more suited for smaller website projects and simple shops that don't need to look super unique.

Webador is a Dutch website builder that caters specifically to small businesses. It promises to make creating a website as straightforward as possible, with a finished page ready in as little as 10 minutes.

Of course, a professional and unique website will require a somewhat bigger investment of time, however, the platform keeps its promise: Anyone, no matter how inexperienced will find Webador's editor to be highly intuitive and beginner-friendly.

At the same time, its ease of use makes Webador an option only for constructing simple websites that don't require a great deal of customization. The ability to modify design templates is limited and you won't find any advanced features or an app market.

Webador is particularly well-suited for simple website projects.

What's Included in Webador's Cheapest Subscription?

Lite, Webador's most affordable subscription, allows users to create a website with unlimited pages; the same goes for storage space and traffic - no limits.

Unfortunately, the provider is less generous when it comes to features: It isn't possible to create online stores, and you'll need to make do without a number of website features (such as a search tool, mobile bar, custom HTML, and statistics). Beyond that, Webador will place ads on your website.

What Are Webador's Advantages and Disadvantages?

  • Beginner-friendly and easy to use

  • Unlimited pages

  • No storage space or traffic limits

  • Only suitable for simple projects

  • No app market

  • Ads and limited features (for example, no online stores) in the Lite subscription

Zyro: From Around $3/Month

Zyro Website Builder
Zyro Website Builder

With nice looking templates for specific industries and businesses, Zyro makes it easy to create professional websites. The website builder's design tools, however, aren't as sophisticated as its competitors.

Zyro is a bit more careful with its promises than Webador: It doesn't claim that you'll be able to make and launch a website in 10 minutes, but less than an hour. The target group, however, is the same, since Zyro also emphasizes its beginner-friendliness by consciously limiting the number of design tools available.

The result: Even without any programming or design experience, you should be able to create a visually appealing and professional website in next-to-no time. Its design templates are versatile enough to be used in a wide variety of branches and businesses.

Those looking for comprehensive customization or tried and tested ecommerce and marketing features will probably be disappointed. In addition, Zyro's AI tools are also not particularly exciting.

Zyro makes website creation particularly easy for beginners.

What Does Zyro's Most Affordable Plan Include?

Zyro only offers two subscription plans - Website and Business. The cheaper of the two, Website, doesn't include ecommerce features. Neither of the packages has any web space or traffic limitations.

What Are Zyro's Advantages and Disadvantages?

  • 150 eclectic templates

  • Quick setup, beginner-friendly, and easy to use

  • Support for multilingual websites

  • Few features & limited customization options

  • No app store

  • Disappointing AI tools

Webnode: From Around $8/Month

Webnode limits customization in order to make creating websites as simple as possible. Overall, it works, but some other website builders manage to strike a better balance between features and ease-of-use.

Webnode is geared primarily towards those building their first website: They'll benefit from its clearly structured editor, which offers a nice selection of design templates and doesn't require too much know-how. You won't find smart AI editors like those offered by Wix or Jimdo, however, it's still possible to quickly put together a professional-looking website with the service.

At the same time, Webnode could offer a bit more variety in terms of its design elements. The same goes for features since Webnode lacks several that most of its competitors provide. Good examples of this are the platform's blogging tools, which could be more extensive, and the missing app store.

You'll customize your Webnode website with ready-made content elements, however, there could be more of these.

What Does Webnode's Cheapest Subscription Include?

Webnode MINI, the lowest-priced Webnode subscription that includes a domain, provides access to all of the platform's basic features as well as 1 GB of storage and 3 GB of bandwidth. You will have to make do without a few things, however: It isn't possible to add an online store to your website or offer it in multiple languages.

What Are Webnode's Advantages and Disadvantages?

  • User-friendly editor

  • Nice selection of design templates

  • Limited design elements

  • No app store

  • MINI plan lacks certain functionality (ecommerce, multiple languages, etc.)

Strikingly: From Around $7.00/Month

Strikingly Website Builder
Strikingly Website Builder
(2,848 )
Strikingly is a beginner-friendly website builder that was designed specifically for single page websites and landing pages – and that's exactly where the platform excels at. If you want to create complex, multipage sites, look elsewhere.

Strikingly is all about beginners: The simple site builder is particularly well-suited for creating single-page websites. Within a matter of minutes, users will be able to put together a page and fill it with their own content. However, more variety among the designs would be welcome, while Strikingly's app market doesn't have much to offer.

In Strikingly's editor, you'll adjust the position of your content by dragging and dropping it.

What Does Strikingly's Cheapest Subscription Include?

It isn't particularly surprising that Strikingly's Limited subscription doesn't include access to all of the platform's features: Multipage websites aren't possible, storage space is capped at 1 GB, and while it's possible to add an online store to your website, it can only sell five products (and you'll need to pay a hefty 5% transaction fee). Taken together, Strikingly's Limited subscription is not ideal for ecommerce projects.

What Are Strikingly's Advantages and Disadvantages?

  • Simple & user-friendly

  • Quickly create single-page websites

  • Good support with live chat

  • Lots of paywalls and missing features in the Limited subscription

  • SEO disadvantages owing to focus on single-page websites

  • Little design freedom

GoDaddy: Starting at $9.5/Month

GoDaddy Website Builder
GoDaddy Website Builder
(109,175 )
With pre-made sections that can be arranged like building blocks, GoDaddy makes it easy to quickly create nice-looking websites. Because design options are limited and there's no drag and drop, it's mainly suitable for smaller projects.

If you'd like to intricately build and design every aspect of your website, skip to our next option: GoDaddy's website builder is intended for one audience, namely, those who want to spend as little time designing their website as possible. It's hard to go wrong with its ready-made section blocks, and they make creating a website very straightforward.

The disadvantage of this approach is that GoDaddy users sacrifice much of the freedom offered by more flexible (and complicated) drag-and-drop builders. Several features also don't make the cut: For example, it isn't possible to add multiple languages to a website, and the platform's SEO settings haven't kept up with the times.

GoDaddy markets its website builder with the claim "Whatever you do, it'll look good", which nicely summarizes how beginner-friendly their platform is.

What's Included With GoDaddy's Most Affordable Subscription?

GoDaddy's Basic subscription lacks ecommerce features. In terms of marketing, you'll be limited in the number of social posts and emails you can send. At the same time, both pages and traffic are unlimited.

What Are GoDaddy's Advantages and Disadvantages?

  • Beginner-friendly

  • Easily create a website with ready-made sections

  • Solid ecommerce features and marketing tools

  • Little customization possible

  • Inadequate SEO options

  • Mixed support

SITE123: From Around $10/Month

SITE123 Website Builder

SITE123 consciously refrains from offering several design tools in order to make creating a website as straightforward as possible. For that reason, it doesn't take long before you'll be able to launch a professional website built around one of its ready-made templates. Manually moving elements by dragging and dropping them isn't possible, which does inhibit customization.

SITE123's editor doesn't offer drag and drop, however, adjusting elements to your preferences is easy enough to do.

What's Included in SITE123's Most Affordable Subscription?

You won't find SITE123's Basic subscription on its website, however, the provider's support will gladly upgrade your free plan to it upon request. This 'secret menu item' includes 10 GB of storage and 5 GB of bandwidth. You will have to make do without ecommerce features, multilingual websites, and site statistics though.

What Are SITE123's Advantages and Disadvantages?

  • Tidy and user-friendly editor

  • Responsive customer support with chat

  • Solid blogging features

  • Limited customization options

  • Few features

  • Unclear pricing

Jimdo is a German website builder which caters specifically to the website needs of small businesses and freelancers. Subscribers get two builders for the price of one - Beginners can take advantage of its AI-powered editor (Dolphin) which makes site creation even easier.

However, Jimdo also impresses with its high-quality templates, ease of use, and free version, which could be appealing to beginners and those running personal websites.

Jimdo comes with two editors, one for beginners and another for more advanced users.

What's Included in Jimdo's Most Affordable Subscription?

Jimdo's Start subscription is only suitable for smaller websites with up to 10 subpages. Other limitations include storage space (5 GB) and bandwidth (10 GB). It isn't possible to set up an online store with these plans - For that, you'll need to book a Business subscription.

What Are Jimdo's Advantages and Disadvantages?

  • Two editors for users based on their experience level

  • Both editors are highly intuitive

  • Possible to integrate third-party apps via plugins

  • Bandwidth, storage, and subpage limits (Starter subscription)

  • No app market

Conclusion

Quality comes at a price and when shopping out of the bargain bin of website builders, you shouldn't expect to strike gold. There are a few "good" platforms that offer decent plans (including a domain) at very competitive rates. However, most of these (Webador, Zyro, and Webnode) are for those just starting out or making their first website: Customization is severely limited in order to enhance user-friendliness and ease of use.

Beyond that, you'll also likely encounter some paywalls if selecting one of the above: When ecommerce features are offered, they are significantly limited, and most of the time, selling online isn't supported at all. In addition, you'll need to put up with storage space and bandwidth limits, both of which can constrain your website's growth.

All the same: These affordable plans are ideal for simple projects or creating a personal website – If things take off, you can always upgrade.

In our EXPERTE.com review series, we looked extensively at 12 providers. Our winner, Wix, is available for a bit more ($16 per month) and includes a domain.
