Top 3 Password Managers for Businesses

Martin Gschwentner

Phishing emails, brute-force attacks, and other criminal ploys make anyone antsy who's got sensitive information stored on the Web. More and more, sophisticated cyber-attacks target businesses and organizations of all sizes. For that reason, it's essential to take the online security of your company's data just as seriously as you would your personal information.

In our opinion, no one should surf the Web or use any Internet-based service without a password manager, which we consider to be the easiest and surest way to manage passwords. Most services offer specially-designed plans for businesses. Check out our reviews below to find out which ones we recommend!

Password managers provide a number of benefits, some, or all of which can improve not only efficiency and time management company-wide, but also cut costs.

Security

Your employees and coworkers are only human. Unfortunately, humans aren't the best at creating sophisticated passwords. At work, you probably use the same easy-to-guess passwords that you do for private purposes, a birthday, a word and some numbers, etc. Maybe you save them in your browser, which while convenient, isn't exactly secure. Any or all of the above provide avenues through which hackers can and do strike.

Password managers create unique and highly secure passwords for you and your employees that are impossible to crack. If you integrate two-factor authentication to access the password manager, your data will be protected even further, turning it into a digital Fort Knox.

Saving Time

Using dedicated software to manage passwords organization-wide can save precious time, making your company more efficient in the long-run. Employees only have to remember a single master password and, thanks to synchronization across devices, can access their login information from practically anywhere. Your IT department will be grateful for not having to waste any more time resetting their colleagues' passwords or scrolling through spreadsheets to find accounts.

We've shown you some of the benefits, but which software fits your needs best?

Top 3 Password Managers for Businesses

When it comes to password managers, the sky is the limit, and most providers offer business plans of one form or another. These typically entail a fixed monthly price per user. Below, we've listed what we think are the top three password managers for businesses or organizations. In ranking all twelve of the services we assessed for this review, we looked at each's functionality, as well as the accompanying pricing structure.

good

One of our biggest issues with RoboForm was the absence of analytical tools in its already spartan security center. Those problems disappear when talking about the platform's business version, which provides administrators with a whole slew of useful options.

Apart from functionality, RoboForm Business's interface appealed to us on an aesthetic level as well.

When creating new groups, it's possible to directly configure a user's rights, and managing data sets is both straightforward and intuitive. Of course, users can also securely share passwords with one another.

RoboForm Business comes with all of the features found in the individual subscription package, such as autofill and 2FA.

Overall, RoboForm Business fixes all of the things we didn't like in its individual subscriptions while offering extras that really make sense for organizations. Four packages exist for businesses and are based on the size of the envisioned user bases.

Best Overall
4.6 / 5
excellent

Dashlane has shown up everywhere in our reporting on password managers, making an appearance (near the top) on pretty much all of our lists. The software is available for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, and the developer also offers a great solution for businesses. Dashlane's business plan entails all the features of the regular premium version, except for the free VPN, but that shouldn't be a big issue for businesses.

The ability to securely share passwords looks to be particularly useful, as it enables teams to safely exchange account information when digitally collaborating with one another. Via the handy admin console, configuring individual user rights is also made as easy as pie.

Dashlane's focus on user-friendliness and simplicity makes it a great option for smaller teams and companies. However, it also means that the app lacks some of the monitoring features offered by other providers like LastPass.

Despite some cosmetic issues relating to its interface, LastPass excelled in our review thanks to its solid array of features and overly generous free version. The developer's business packages, not looking to disappoint, offer more personalization and analytical tools than other password managers. Via the user-friendly admin console, it's possible to configure detailed password security settings and take advantage of a variety of analytical tools. LastPass also lets you securely share passwords, notes, and other data sets with entire user-defined groups.

LastPass offers two business packages: Teams can be used by up to 50 people, whereas Enterprise is designed for larger companies.
